2013 Omaha, Infield at the Zoo

Infield at the Zoo
Honoring Our History
For decades, Rosenblatt Stadium has served as both the iconic and physical manifestation of baseball in the Omaha community.
Rosenblatt Stadium opened in 1948 and has been host to several minor league baseball teams, most recently the Omaha Royals, which played at Rosenblatt from 1969-2010. Most notably, Rosenblatt Stadium was home to the College World Series®for 60 years.
Our long history and fond memories of Rosenblatt and its impact on our neighborhood and community will be commemorated as "Infield at the Zoo". It is our hope that this tribute will honor the legacy of Rosenblatt Stadium and become an enjoyable gathering space for families and visitors as they begin their journey at Omaha's Zoo.
Key Features of Infield at the Zoo
  • The preservation of the original location of home plate at Rosenblatt Stadium will always be remembered and recognized by a bronzed memorial plate.
  • Infield at the Zoo was designed to encourage activity for its youngest and oldest visitors. The base paths will be re-created  to allow visitors to run the bases just as baseball's greats did for decades.
  • For those that find pleasure in watching a great game from the stands, many of Rosenblatt's original seats, in their original colors, will be used as seating within the park, evoking fond memories of games past.
  • The main entrance to Infield at the Zoo borrows architectural elements from the grandstand of Rosenblatt in both shape and design.
  • As with any stadium, foul poles serve as strong vertical boundaries of the playing field. The original foul poles, in their original locations, will help visitors maintain a sense of space.
  • "Dug-out" areas will replicate the field-level views and interaction of the original player dugouts and provide shaded picnic areas along the first and third base lines.
